The year 2025 will be the 100th anniversary since the promulgation of the Revised Act for Election of the Members of the House of Representatives, “Universal Male Suffrage Act,” in 1925, that extended voting rights to all males aged 25 or older. It also marks the 80th year since a revision to that same act granted women the right to vote, or “women’s suffrage,” in 1945. This exhibition traces the history of how voting rights were expanded in modern Japan with the materials mainly held by the National Archives of Japan.
