Japanese forces advanced into southern French Indochina on July 28, 1941.


  • Document 1 is issue No. 180 of Shashin Shuho, which was published on August 6, 1941. This issue covers the “reinforced troop deployment” of army and navy units in French Indochina, and features pictures of life in southern French Indochina (see the second and third images).
  • Document 2 is issue No. 181 of Shashin Shuho, which was published on August 13, 1941. This issue features a photograph of Japanese soldiers entering Saigon by bicycle in the magazine’s “first report on reinforcements deployed to French Indochina” (see the third image).
