Information on Newly Released Documents

Documents released on February 19, 2025, The National Institute for Defense Studies, Ministry of Defense

Forty-seven volumes (reference codes starting with C2407xxxxxxx) were released regarding the Battle of Peleliu in the Pacific War (September–November 1944), the ceasefire/surrender in the Palau Islands, and more.

Forty-one volumes (reference codes starting with C2407xxxxxxx) were released regarding the military administration, public administration, and civil affairs in the Navy’s Southern Occupied Territories (Borneo, Celebes, Hainan Island, etc.) in the Pacific War, the Guangdong Naval Special Intelligence Department, and more.

Eighty-four volumes (reference codes starting with A2501xxxxxxx) were released.

Fifty-eight volumes (reference codes starting with A2410xxxxxxx) were released.

Thirty-nine volumes (reference codes starting with A2410xxxxxxx) were released.

Thirty-one volumes (reference codes starting with A2409xxxxxxx) were released.

Forty-eight volumes (reference codes starting with A2409xxxxxxx, A2411xxxxxxx and A2412xxxxxxx) were released.

This group of documents includes statistical findings that served as reference materials for the Imperial Diet (1890–1947). One hundred and eighty-four volumes (reference codes starting with A2407xxxxxxx) were released for the 77th to 79th Diets.

These documents relate to German reparations after World War I (created from 1911 to 1935). Forty-seven volumes (reference codes starting with A2501xxxxxxx) were released on German reparations and social conditions of the time.

These materials include documents related to the enactment, amendment, and/or repeal of laws and regulations (cabinet meeting documents, etc.), as well as documents related to the enactment, amendment, and/or repeal of various regulations and public notices. One hundred and seventy-five volumes for the years up to 1947 (reference codes starting with A2406xxxxxxx) were released.

Records of the Cabinet Meetings, Meetings of the Administrative Vice-Ministers, and Other Meetings of Officials comprise Cabinet meeting materials and meetings of administrative vice-ministers and others on file in chronological order. One hundred and thirty-seven volumes for 1962–1963 (reference codes starting with A2405xxxxxxx) were released.

These records concern deliberations on legislative bills by counselors of the Cabinet Legislation Bureau. Two hundred and sixty-four volumes for 1957–1959 (reference codes starting with A2405xxxxxxx) were released.

Documents released on March 18, 2025, Yamaguchi University library

The “Modern and Contemporary East Asian Records” collection is a grouping of materials that was accumulated mainly around the time of World War II at Yamaguchi Higher Commercial School—the predecessor to the university’s Faculty of Economics—and one of its organizations, the East Asia Economic Research Institute. The collection comprises such materials as books, magazines, reports, information bulletins, pamphlets, and the like issued by the Governor-General of Korea, the Governor-General of Taiwan, the South Manchurian Railway, and various Republic of China institutions and organizations.
