The Taishō era (1912–1926), some 100 years ago, witnessed numerous developments that have connections with us today. These include establishment of parliamentary politics based on political parties, the achievement of universal male suffrage, women’s social advancement, improvements of education and protections for children, and the founding of the League of Nations. At the same time, major events occurred such as the First World War and the Great Kantō Earthquake (this year marks its centenary) that are still remembered by many today. In this exhibition, materials from the holdings of the National Archives of Japan are on display to show Japan,100 years ago.
